From September 2009 this course will be available through our NVQ Centre. The course is suitable for those with at least 12 months experience of working with young people (13 – 19yrs) in a substantial youth work post / placement in either the statutory or voluntary sector. Learners will need to have sound literacy skills, sound communication skills, study skills and the ability to think analytically.
Dates: Will run on a weekday evening (3 hours) over a 24 week period.
Venue: Star House
Content: 6 mandatory units;
Students will need to compile a portfolio consisting of a reflective diaryand assessed assignmemts (case studies, essays, practical tasks and observed practice).

This course is now available through our NVQ Centre, and is suited to new part time or volunteer youth workers.
Dates: 1 evening / afternoon per week over a period of 10 weeks.
Venue: Star House (but can also be delivered in suitable community venues)
Content: Includes – Qualities of a Youth Worker / Planning Youth Work Sessions / Health & Safety / Risk Assessment / Child Protection / Young Peoples` Voice and Influence / Participation.
Participants will be expected to produce a portfolio of evidence
demonstrating their competence and knowledge. The course makes use
of a variety of learning methods – presentations, group discussions, the
sharing of work experiences. Tutorial support will be available
throughout.
