Services for Adults

Sheffeld Futures offers a number of services for adults to help them find suitable employment, education or training opportunities as well as offering help and support with other aspects of their lives. Services are being delivered with the support of the European Social Fund and Skills Funding Agency.

Drop In Service

We operate a drop in service for adults living or working in Sheffield, as part of the local Nextstep service.

Our specialist advisers are able to spend up to 20 minutes with you when you drop in to Star House for an initial discussion about your circumstances and needs relating to learning and work.

We can typcially offer:

  • advice about the routes which may be open to you
  • signposting to other local services
  • access to our resource base for further information

Adult Careers Service

Sheffield Futures also provides a careers service for adults in the region. We offer information and advice to help with:

  • Returning to work or education
  • Looking at your skills, hobbies and interests
  • Job hunting skills – like CV writing and interview techniques
  • Coping with redundancy
  • Finding funding for study
  • Career change
  • Self employment

If you would like to see an adviser to discuss your individual circumstances, you can email the Adult Services team or phone 0114 201 2914. We offer one-to-one or group sessions at Star House and at various locations in Sheffield.

Starting Over

Starting Over is a voluntary programme that aims to support adults with a history of substance misuse into constructive activities, education, training and employment. Our innovative intergrated approach means we can provide adults in vulnerable positions with:

  • Advice on housing, benefits and debt
  • Information and careers advice, including CV preparation, interview techniques and help with job searches
  • Access to education and training programmes and college courses
  • Voluntary placements
  • Funding for job-focused training, tools/clothing and travel vouchers to help you start employment
  • Support in the first 3 months of employment
  • Access to motivation courses
  • Relapse prevention courses

Starting Over is based at Star House, on Division Street in Sheffield City Centre and aims to provide the support and information you may need whilst boosting self confidence and motivation.

Adult Directions

Adult Directions is a computer programme which lets you match your skills and interests to a particular job or career. You’ll find this programme useful if you are looking for options and ideas about what sort of job or career you would like.

Please note that you will need a Licence Name and Code before you can access the service online, so please see an adviser at Star House before you try to log on.

Alternatively, Adult Directions is available on computers in Star House.
