Safer Internet Day 2010

Get your hard hats and hi-vis jackets ready – next Tuesday 9th February is Safer Internet Day (SID).

SID is a Europe-wide initiative focusing on, you guessed it, internet safety. There will be a range of activities taking place during the UK’s ‘Week of Action, Monday 8th – Friday 12th February, all designed to raise awareness about using the internet in a safe and responsible way.

The theme for 2010 is: ‘Think before you post’. You can find out what is happening locally by visiting the Safer Internet Day website. They have a handy map so you can see the activities currently planned.

Safer Internet Day will also see the launch of a public awareness campaign from the UK Council for Child Internet Safety. The Click Clever, Click Safe campaign will highlight a new online ‘green cross code’ – Zip it, Block it, Flag it. Look out for information in your school/college.

As ever, we’d like to hear your views on this. How safe do you feel when using the internet? Have you come across anything you thought was inappropriate?
