Emma joins the British Council’s Disability Advisory Panel

Congratulations to one of our Leo’s Club members, Emma Gladman, who has recently been elected by her peers to represent young disabled people on the British Council’s Disability Advisory Panel.

The British Council wanted a young person to attend their twice yearly meetings in the British Council Offices in Trafalgar Square, London and Emma was seen as the perfect candidate.

At the meetings, Emma rubs shoulders with civil servants, media personnel, disability activists and a whole range of people from across the world.

Representing young people with disabilities and learning difficulties is nothing new to Emma, who is also member of the Speaking Up Youth Parliament. She is delighted with her new role and said:

“I was shocked that I won! I’ve already been to a meeting in London about the Olympics and we have been trying to think about how to get people involved. I’m really excited about my new role.”

Stepping Stone, a project run by Sheffield Futures, supports local young people with disabilities. Emma is the second person involved with the Stepping Stone project to be elected to the post on the British Council’s Disability Advisory Panel.

Well done Emma!
