Have you thought about:
Open Days; some employers offer the chance to spend half a day with them to find out more about a specific career.
Work experience: the more you put in, the more you’ll get out. If you impress, you may even be offered a job! Your careers teacher can help you set up a suitable placement. Try to work out what you want from the experience before you start – you’ll gain more from it.
Work shadowing: a chance to see what life is like at the top of an organisation. Shadow a manager for a week!
Informal work experience: you could organise this yourself, perhaps going in to a vet for a couple of weeks in the holidays.
Paid holiday work and unpaid holiday work: all valuable insights into how a business is run and what work is all about. Go in with your eyes and ears open and you’ll learn much more!
Summer holiday schemes: run by some banks and lawyers offices to enable you to ensure that these careers are right for you.
