Sheffield Futures believes that the welfare of children and young people is paramount. All children and young people have the right to protection from abuse regardless of their ages, culture, disability, gender, ethnic or racial origin, language, religious belief or sexual orientation.
Sheffield Futures has in place Child Protection policies, guidelines and procedures within the framework of the Sheffield Safeguarding Children Board (SSCB) procedures. Sheffield Futures is committed to a multi-agency approach to safeguard children, young people (13-19) and vulnerable adults involved in Sheffield Futures activities and in promoting their welfare.
Sheffield Futures also recognises its responsibilities towards children and young people in general, in particular those with whom its staff and volunteers come into contact. It is the responsibility of each one of us to prevent physical, sexual or emotional abuse or neglect of children and young people.
All staff and volunteers are subject to Sheffield Futures safer recruitment procedures and all workers are required to undertake appropriate child protection training.
Any allegations or suspicions of abuse will be responded to swiftly. They will not be ignored.
If you are worried about the saftey of a child or young person in Sheffield, the Safeguarding Children website has information about what to do and who to contact.
The Backing Young Britain campaign is a rallying call to businesses, charities and government bodies to create more opportunities for young people. They are being asked to commit to at least one of the following initiatives:
The December White Paper, Building Britain’s Recovery: Achieving Full Employment, announced that from January 2010, 18–24 year olds will be guaranteed a job, work placement or work related skills training from the six month point of their claim to JSA.
From April 2010, young people reaching 10 months on JSA will be required to take-up one of the offers from the Young Persons Guarantee, the six month offer or from the Backing Young Britain menu. This will ensure that no young adult is permanently disadvantaged by the recession
The Young Person’s Guarantee and Future Jobs Fund have been introduced as part of a range of measures to address the effects of the recession and to overcome the obstacles and disadvantages faced by the long term unemployed.
