When the youth room at Club 230 was in need of a revamp, who did youth workers turn to? The young people they work with of course!
Working with artist Mary Sewell over the course of a 6 week project, the group of young people produced large canvas images which will be used to decorate the room. The boards feature the interests, talents, aspirations and dreams of the group and alongside the 7 individual portraits there is also a ‘sky picture’ of all those who took part in the project.
The finished artwork is the result of weeks of planning and design, with young people producing collages and their own drawings before deciding on their final ideas. The group then got the chance to use costumes and props to bring their ideas to life during several photo shoots.
The youth room at Club 230, located on Lane End, Chapeltown will have an official ‘unveiling’ as part of a celebration launch event on Monday 15th Feb 2010. Look out for more details soon.
